How To Get Rust Off Stainless Steel Grills

Rub the baking soda on the stainless-steel grills using a tooth paste. Using baking soda is beneficial as it is non abrasive and soft and will gently remove the rust from the stainless steel grill. Wipe off the baking soda with wet paper towel. You will notice that the rust has also come off with the baking soda.

Lemon Juice Method

This is one of the common methods to remove rust off the stainless steel grills through the process of oxidation. You can follow the simple steps below to remove rust off.

Mix equal amounts of baking soda and lemon juice to make a paste. The paste should be thick enough to stay on the stainless steel grills. Let the paste stay on the grills for about 30 minutes.

Use a non abrasive material such as a damp sponge to clean the rust from the stainless steel grills.

After doing so, remove the gunk from the stainless steel grills using a damp paper towel. If the rust is not cleaned in one go, then repeat the process again to remove the rust.

Cream Of Tartar Method

The first step is to combine few drops of lemon juice with 1 tablespoon of cream of tartar. Formulate a thick paste with lemon juice and cream of tartar.

Place the paste on the rusted stainless steel grills and use a soft sponge to rub the rusted spots. Let the mixture stay on the grill for about 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, remove the paste and wipe the whole grill setup with damp paper towel.

Rusting is surely an environmental process and you cannot stop it. However you can surely prevent it by taking some preventive or precautionary measures. Following are the ways through which you can prevent rusting of stainless steel grills.

Pouring Sauces

Avoid pouring sauces directly on to the grill. This is because excessive sauce can directly run into your burners and can also leave a heavy coating when your grill cools down and the sauce dries out. Hence, try to apply or load sauces in your food while the process of marination rather than loading during the process of grilling.

Clean Your Grill

It is a general rule to clean up your grill after cooking every food or grilling any food. After you are done grilling food, turn off your burner and let the grill cool down. Get hold of your bristle free brush or any brush which is non abrasive. Slightly and generously rub the dried food residue from the grill.

However, for the charcoal grill it is better to clean them while they are hot. You can sprinkle some water on your charcoal grill and gently rub with the scraping brush which is non abrasive in nature so that it does not leave marks or scratches off your grill.

Oil Your Grill

Always ensure that you spread a layer of vegetable oil after you are done grilling the food. The layer of vegetable will prevent any kind of moisture entering the grill and will hence, prevent the rusting process also. However, you should prevent spraying aerosol as it can alleviate flame when you turn on the coals and ignite the flame.

Move Indoors

When your grill is not in use try to move it indoors. In addition to this, after grilling try go covet the cover the grilling apparatus with nylon or poly vinyl.
