How To Tell the Difference Between Lamb Loin Chops And Lamb Rack Chops?

When air frying lamb chops there are two different types of chops that you can use. These are lamb loin chops (also referred to as lamb) and lamb rack chops. Both can be air fried to produce a flavorful dish but this is vital for you to learn how to tell the difference so you can know what you’re cooking. Let’s take a look at how to identify each as well as when it’s best to use them.

Lamb Chops

Lamb rack chops, as the name suggests, are made from the lamb rack. These chops are typically made by cutting between the eight rib bones of the lamb. Doing this creates lamb chops that resemble lollipops. The meat of these chops are generally tender and flavorful.

Lamb Loin

if you prefer having more meat on your chops, then you may need to look into getting lamb loin chops. These chops typically resemble many T-bone steaks. They are often cut thick with some of their fat removed. These chops are typically the juiciest and most tender meat available when it comes to chops.

The recipe we will explore today uses lamb rack chops, but it will also work if you have lamb loin chops on hand.

How To Air Fry Lamb Chops

Before we begin, it is important to note that if you decide to use lamb loin chops instead you will need to add another 2 to 3 minutes onto your cooking time. Lamb rack chops will cook faster than lamb loin chops as they have nice meat to cook through.

Marinating Your Lamb Chops

To begin, slice your rack of lamb to create chops. In a Ziploc bag, combine a bit of olive oil, garlic purée, herbs (of your choosing) along with salt and pepper. Take some of your garlic purée and set aside to be used later in the recipe.

Note: By adding a bit of oil in your marinade you will give your lamb chopped a better chance of having the protein brown a bit more while frying. It also helps to produce a more flavorful lamb chop.

Add your lamb chop to the Ziploc bag, and seal it. Lightly shape the back so that your lamb chops get coated and set about to refrigerate for between 1 to 2 hours. This will allow the flavors from the marinade to seep into the meat of lamb chop.

Let’s Air Fry Some Lamb Chops

Set your air fryer to preheat to 360°F (about 2 to 3 minutes). There are a bunch of different information online regarding whether or not to preheat the air fryer. I believe every air Fryer model and recipe are different and will call for different best practices.

Transfer your lamb chops from the Ziploc bag to your air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not pack the lamb chops on top of each other as this will prevent the chops from cooking correctly. Consider cooking matches if you are unable to fit all your lamb chop in the air fryer at the same time. Fill in the spaces around the lamb chopped with unpeeled garlic. This will give your lamb chops delicious aroma.

Set your lamb chops to air fry for six minutes. After the time elapses, flip your lamb chops over, and top with the remainder garlic purée that you had set aside the beginning of the recipe. Return the baskets to the air fryer and continue cooking for another six minutes.

Remove from the air fryer and allow your lamb chops to rest for at least two minutes before serving.

Best Temperature to Air Fry Lamb Chops

Most people preferred their lamb chops between rare and medium doneness. When I was overcooked, it tends to become tough and dry. If you’ve worked in the kitchen before you may be able to test the level of doneness by simply touching the chop. However, for most of us we will need to get a thermometer. In terms of temperature, you want to aim to get 125°F as your internal temperature for a rare chop. For medium-rare, the temperature you want is 135°F, and for medium 145°F. For
