Who Invented The Air Fryer?

Who Invented The Air Fryer?

An air fryer is a machine that cooks healthy food in few minutes with little or no oil. It can also be described as a convection oven in a smaller size. It has a heating element located at the top of the fryer beside a giant fan that helps circulated heat over the food. Prepare food simply by placing the food on the fryer’s tray inside the air fryer’s basket.

The Koninklijke Philips N.V., which meant Royal Philips and was shortened to Philips, is the first company to create and build an air fryer, the first one ever in 2010. This company introduced an appliance that was completely different from others. The food cooked in an Air fryer was said to have less than 80% fat which brings about a considerable decrease in the grease you take in foods such as chips, French fries, etc. Philips’ air fryer is also well advanced in preparing desserts like cakes, cookies, and many more. The Philips air fryer has since developed, and many companies worldwide have tried to replicate their success. Air fryers are said to be the first appliance that cooks faster but with raw materials like chickens, fish, steak, potatoes, and so on in a minute.

Why Philips air fryer?

  • It cooks faster and adequately.
  • It is easy to use.
  • It saves time and energy.
  • It is healthy to use because of its low-fat cooking result.
  • It can be used to grill, bake, fry, and roast.

  • Dishwasher safe.
  • Power of 1425watts (220volt)
  • It has an automatic time setting which gives you access to set a timer for your food. When the time completes, it will turn off automatically.
  • A multi cooker.
  • Small in size.

A brief history of the brain behind the modern air fryer

The history of the invention of an air fryer started back in the late 1930s. A man had a little garden in his home where he grows cauliflower (a garden plant related to cabbage, which flower is used as a vegetable.) One year, he produced more than he could eat, and instead of throwing them away, he decided to freeze them; this was before the war. Though the Americans then were well acquainted with freezers, none thought of keeping food for a long time as it was irrelevant. But the man kept his leftovers and heated them a year later. And he discovered the taste is the same as if it was fresh. The man was called William Maxson; he was born in Minnesota. During the early stage of his life, he graduated from a naval academy in Annapolis (1921) and served in the navy until he resigned in 1935 as a midshipman. He later settled down as a civilian and set up a W.L. Maxson corporation after settling with his family in New Jersey. In 1944, he used his idea to provide quality meals for the servicemen in the navy while crossing the Atlantic. The idea was to cook the food halfway, then freeze and it could be heated up anytime they want. Nowadays, frozen foods are heated up in a microwave, but there was no microwave then, so he had to develop a Maxson Whirlwind oven machine. It weighed 35 pounds and was made of aluminium and steel. Its power is of 120volts, and it can be powered by gas, kerosene, or electricity. He installed a fan that distributes hot air evenly around the food. The oven could carry up to six meals and cook between 15 minutes.

After the war, Maxson found it hard to get customers. So he managed to get his frozen foods to grocery stores and supermarkets. Later on, he planned to increase his frozen meal to 50 items and also planned to sell his oven at a low price for home use. Everything was playing out as planned until 1947, when he died following an operation. After his death, his children closed down his company, sold all his inventions, ideas, and work because they had little or no interest to continue their father’s work. Fortunately, his work didn’t die; after his death, Many companies produced new products based on Maxson’s idea. For example, a company called Nordskog in California re-engineered the whirlwind oven because it was discovered to overcook some foods like vegetables and meat coming out tough and dry due to its temperature at 200°F in minimum.

Why he invented the Maxson whirlwind oven?

  • He wanted to help in reducing food wastage.
  • He was determined to try and invest in his idea to create something new.
  • He wanted to change daily challenges with his technology ideas and inventions.

What can Maxson whirlwind oven do?

  • It can cook within 15 minutes.
  • Food is cooked correctly because of the fan he installed at the back of the oven to help distribute hot air.
  • It’s faster than the regular oven

Similarities between Philips Air Fryer and Maxson Whirlwind Oven.

Both Philips air fryer and Maxson whirlwind oven use the same method of cooking, which is convection baking. They get their meal cooked by installing a fan in their respective appliances, which distribute hot air evenly over the food; this precisely makes cooking faster.

Differences between an Air Fryer and Maxson Whirlwind Oven.

Bottom Line

Air fryers are preferred and said to be better than convection oven because it is fast, easy to use, can fit in a bit of space, cooks crispy foods with less fat, and so on. As a matter of saying, people want comfort at the same time speed while doing their cooking, and that is precisely what an air fryer is made for.
