How to Make Frozen Shredded Hash Browns in Air Fryer

The Procedure of Making Frozen Shredded Hash Browns in Air Fryer Easily

When I first arrived in the US, the phrase “Hash Brown” initially took me by surprise. I mistakenly associated it with Hashish or something similar. However, it didn’t take long for me to understand its actual meaning, especially since it frequently showed up on the breakfast or side dish sections of many restaurant menus. Curiosity got the best of me, and when I finally tried it, I discovered it was simply finely chopped potatoes, much like a slimmer version of potato fries. As time went on, I grew increasingly reluctant to dine out, particularly for breakfast. My cooking skills were lacking, and my attempts usually ended in chaos, especially in my small kitchen. A friend visiting me recommended getting an air fryer to minimize the mess and eat healthier. Consequently, an air fryer quickly topped my wish list and eventually became a staple in my kitchen.

Cooking my meals in the air fryer for the first time was a pleasant experience as I did that seamlessly without creating a usually huge mess and had the sense of achievement of making healthier food for myself.  Slowly, I noticed that I have started enjoying cooking.  For breakfast, I eat hash browns along with eggs like scrambled, fried, poached, or boiled, eggs.  In my view, hash browns always make a great partnership with eggs.

On my next visit to the superstore, while pushing my trolly, I noticed the packs of frozen hash brown in the freezer.   With a smile on my face, I picked up half a dozen packs and placed those in my trolly.  I was sure that I am going to have a superb taste of hash browns every other day after cooking those in the newly purchased air fryer.

There are a variety of recipes and combinations available to try according to one’s choice or taste. I have gone through various recipes demonstrated on videos on the net as well explained in a plethora of blogs and kept improving.  Finally, I settled on a recipe and that I wish to share with you people as I love to share my good experiences.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 bag Frozen Hash Browns
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste
  • Nonstick Cooking Spray

Preparing Air Fryer

  • Cleaning

Make your air fryer ready by washing the fry pan basket, base tray, baking pot, reversible rack, and a grill pan with hot water and sponge with a few drops of detergent. You may wipe the body of the fryer with a wet cloth to remove any dust accumulated on it.

  • Pre-Heating

Pre-heating the air fryer is an essential step so that heat is evenly distributed inside the fryer. However, you do not need to get panicked if you forgot to preheat due to any reason.  In case of such eventuality, you must add few extra minutes while cooking.  Most air fryers are fitted with the inbuilt function of pre-heat, and one needs to press a button on the touch panel for this.  However, if you do not find such a button, you can do it manually.  For smaller air fryers, the suggested time for preheating is 2 to 3 minutes and the larger air fryers will need at least 5 minutes for preheating.

Procedure

Having done that, place frozen hash browns in a large bowl and add garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper one by one.   By using a spatula, mix to combine all ingredients evenly.   After doing this, take the air fryer basket and spray a little bit of non-sticking cooking oil.   Then, start spreading the frozen hash browns into the air fryer basket.  You do not have to overload it as it is tempting to get things done quickly.  Remember, overloading can spoil the dish. After placing the appropriate amount of hash browns into the basket, spray the non-sticking cooking oil once more.  Place the pan basket into the fryer and set the temperature to 400O F.   Press the start button and either sit back or start doing anything else you like to do like check the number of likes on your latest Facebook or Instagram post or whatever.   Do not forget to come back after 5 to 7 minutes to flip the hash browns in the pan basket.    To do this, you need to take out the basket from the fryer and flip the hash browns using a spatula or large spoon.  Having done that, you should insert the pan basket back into the fryer and resume what you were doing previously.  You may need to repeat the procedure once more.  However, in most of the case, hash browns are usually ready within 10-12 minutes using an air fryer. Take out the pan basket and check the cooked hash browns.  If you think your hash brawns are not cooked very well, you may continue frying for a couple of more minutes.    Having done the first batch, you may cook the second batch depending upon your requirement or the size of family or guests present at your place.

Tips

  • Filling: Do not overfill the pan basket. You can always cook the next batch.
  • Preheat: Preheating your Air Fryer at 400o F is an important step and it should be done.
  • Toss: Be sure to gently toss or flip the pan basket after every 5 minutes.
  • Crispier: Cook for 1-2 minutes extra to turn your hash browns crispier.
  • Serve Immediately: Air Fryer hash browns are best served as soon as they are done. Just like at a restaurant, they are the best fresh.

Conclusion

Being a sportsperson, I believe that there is nothing better than starting my day with a hearty breakfast.
